    THE 7th LEEDS SPORTS AWARDS

The 7th Leeds Sports Awards were held on Monday 15th February at the Headingley Experience in the presence of the Lord Mayor of Leeds, Councillor Judith Elliott. The Awards Evening celebrates the achievements and successes of athletes, both professional and amateur, administrators and volunteers in all fields of sport. It is a prestigious occasion organised by the voluntary voice of sport in Leeds, the Leeds Sports Federation.

Over 140 people attended the Awards Evening, enjoying a fine dinner. The evening was hosted by Roger Greenwood with many celebrities from the world of sport attending, including Neil Back and Andy Key (rugby union), Gary Hetherington ( rugby league) and Sean Harvey ( football). There were also many prominent councillors attending who support sport in the city as well as representatives from the business community who support the Awards Evening.

After dinner, Roger Greenwood invited the many guests to present awards to the attending athletes from a wide variety of sports. As is usual there were many cries of delight from the winners, terrific applause for all recipients especially for the volunteer winners. The highlight of the evening came with the presentation of a Lifetime Achievement Award to the five times British Lions coach, Sir Ian McGeechan.

The Leeds Sports Federation would like to thank all those who supported the Leeds Sports Awards, from the City Council, the business community and the athletes themselves without whom there would not be an Awards Evening.
